Assuming the Criterial Freezing postulated by Rizzi (2006), the fact that the clefted constituents of It -Cleft constructions can be further extracted from the clefted position presents a potential problem to the conventional cartographic approach. In this paper, it is argued that this problem can be resolved under the concept of Maximality put forward by Rizzi (2015) and Chomsky’s (2013, 2015) labeling algorithm. In particular, the timing of the application of the labeling algorithm is crucial for solving this problem; the labeling algorithm should be applied at the phase level. Due to this, the clefted constituents can be further extracted in accordance with the concept of Maximality. For the syntactic structure of It -Cleft constructions, this paper will argue that the cleft clause is adjoined to the PredP in the copular sentence, and the (null) operator movement occurs within the cleft clause. This structure is similar to that of Parasitic Gap constructions, so this paper will illustrate a common property of both constructions.}, pages = {23--34}, title = {英語のIt-Cleft構文における焦点要素の移動について}, volume = {12}, year = {2022}, yomi = {クロギ, タカヨシ} }
