Organizational ambidexterity refers to the ability of an organization\nto both explore and exploit. The ambidextrous organizational designs can be regarded as a solution of\nthe innovator’s dilemma. In this paper, we first discuss the March(1991)’s conceptualization of the\nnotion of exploitation and exploration as the origin of the ambidextrous designs. Then, we mention the\nfeatures of the main types of how to achieve ambidexterity (temporal, structural, and contextual).\nSubsequently, we identify the conditions under which the ambidextrous designs may be beneficial\n(highly Uncertain environment and sufficient slack resources), and suggest the importance of the\nleverage of their resources from exploitation to exploration and the learning-based evaluation for the\nexploratory organizational units.
