CMAS is an international federation that represents underwater activities related to underwater\nsports and sciences. It oversees an international system of recreational snorkel and scuba diver training\nand certification. Established in Monaco in January 1959, CMAS is one of the world's oldest underwater\norganizations and is today comprised of over 130 national federations from 5 continents. Further,\nCMAS consists of three major committees – “Sports”, “Technical”, and “Scientific” and is recognized\nby the “IOC; International Olympic Committee”, “Sport Accord”, and the “UNESCO; United Nations\nEducational, Scientific and Cultural Organization”. The sports committee consists of commissions\nrepresenting the following underwater sports: “Apnoea”, Aquathlon”, “Finswimming”, “Spearfishing”,\n“Sport diving”, “Underwater hockey”, “Underwater orienteering”, “Underwater rugby”, and “Underwater\ntarget shooting”.
