内容記述 | This paper discusses the theory of strategy developed by Richard P. Rumelt in ‘Good Strategy Bad Strategy’ (2011) and ‘The Crux of Strategy’ (2022), and the close relationship that exists between Rumelt's theory and David J. Teece's Dynamic Capability Framework (DCF) to derive useful suggestions for the future development of Teece's version of DCF. Rumelt's theory, which regards strategy as “challenge" and "creation," is characterized by its "denial of evolutionary views" and "emphasis on entrepreneurial leadership." This is consistent with the characteristics of the "design school" as described by Mintzberg et al. (1989). And we can find similar characteristics in Teece's standpoint, which claims a high degree of consistency and structural congruence between Rumelt's theory and his own DCF. Therefore, in accordance with Mintzberg's view, we assume that the scope (niche) in which the design school (≒Rumelt's theory) is most effective is also applicable to Teece's DCF. Based on this background, we propose that the scale (unit) of "business model (innovation)" as an activity system that can be directly designed and controlled by entrepreneurial management is the "niche" that can best utilize the main implications of Teece's version of DCF. * |
